The Springfield College Museum Mission Statement

The Springfield College Museum was created to collect, store and preserve archival, historical, and memorabilia items that help to tell the story of the college located in Springfield, SD. The College operated, from 1896 to 1984, under the names of Southern State Normal, Southern State Teachers College, Southern State College and the University of South Dakota at Springfield.

The Museum serves as both a location to view items related to the college and as a research center for those interested in learning more about individuals who attended and/or were employed at the College

The Springfield College Archives/Museum Committee, which created the Museum and raised funds to develop and operated it, operates as a subsidiary of the Springfield Historical Society which is a 501 ( C ) (3) not-for profit, tax exempt organization.

Endowment funds raised to develop, operate and maintain the Museum on a perpetual basis are deposited in the SD Community Foundation and the income from the endowment is governed by the Springfield College Archives Museum Committee.
